The City of Los Angeles is currently using Microwave Sensors SmartWalkTM detectors on the east side crosswalk at the T-intersection of Temple and San Pedro, as shown in the images on the right. Temple Street is an east-west street and San Pedro comes from the south to form the 'T'. There are marked crosswalks across the east and south legs only. The microwave pedestrian detectors were added to the eastside crosswalk where push-buttonswere already present. On both the norteast and southeast corners, the SmartWalkTM 1400 was installed to detect pedestrians at the curb who were waiting to cross the street.

Two SmartWalkTM 1800 units were also installed to detect pedestrians in the crosswalk. If a pedestrian was detected as still in the crosswalk, the system was programmed to extend the crossing time by .02 second increments to maximum of six additional seconds.
