Kirkland, WA.

The city of Kirkland installed their first LightGuard System™ of in-pavement lights in the fall of 1997 at two locations- Central Way and 4th Street and NE 124th Street at the North Kirkland Community Center (shown in the photos to the right). The city won a special award from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission for the project and was so pleased with the performance of the system that an additional 17 pedestrian crossing locations have now been selected and treated with the in-pavement lighting system. All of the systems installed in Kirkland require the pedestrian to use a push-button to activate the system. For additional information about the sites in Kirkland, please contact the Traffic Engineering Manager for the City, Mr. David Godfrey at dgodfrey@ci.kirkland.wa.us. Also visit the City of Kirkland web site at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us.
